The Rotary Club of Skegness held their annual Santa Fun Run on Sunday 11th December 2016.  The weather was ideal for the 342 runners who took part.

This event, which was sponsored by Fresh Fitness Gym, raised over £3000 for local charities and the Rotary Club are committed to supporting the local Community through this event.    Thank you to everyone who took part and supported this event.  Everyone was a winner but the first one home was  Race No. 266 David Allworthy

The Rotary Club of Skegness

This year’s annual Skegness Santa Fun Run, organised by the Rotary Club of Skegness took place on Sunday 13th December 2015 starting from the Lifeboat Station on the seafront at Tower Esplanade.

Over 275 Santa suited entrants set off at 10.30am around the Foreshore course of approximately 5km, with the usual mixture of keen runners, family runners and walkers and even the occasional pet leading the way up and down the Parades and seafront. The Skegness Academy and Richmond School both took part with organised teams, and the instructors from Fresh Fitness Gym, who along with East Kirkby Refrigeration sponsored the event, were on hand to lead the warm-up before the starters horn was sounded by the Mayor, Coun. Carl Macey and a red sea of Santas headed off towards the Clock Tower.

County Linx Radio were on hand with their CLUB bus, and the Jolly Fisherman put in an appearance as the Mayor handed out course medals to all the finishers as they crossed the line. The Fun Run is an annual community event which raises significant funds for the Air Ambulance and other local charities and is made possible by all those who took part or helped in any way, either by permissions, advertising, promotion, sponsorship of the event, or just time given on the day by volunteers.

Any further sponsorship monies raised by by entrants can be paid to the Rotary Club of Skegness via the Fun Run Secretary, 45 Seacroft Drive, Skegness PE25 3AP

250 splendid Santa’s speeding along the seafront at Skegness.

The Fun Run project organised by the Com. Voc. team gets bigger and better every year. We had the additional support of Fresh Fitness who sponsored the event and ensured the Santa’s were properly warmed up prior to the start of the race. Jolly oversaw the proceedings and the Mayor was on hand to offer his encouragement to all the entrants who were eventually set on their way by Dame Tilly Trot and the stars of Jack and the Beanstalk. A cold and windy day didn’t put off our Santa’s with everyone and his dog completing the course. Well done to John and Bob and all the helpers.

The 2014 Skegness Santa Fun Run raised over £2,000 for local charities.

Competitors braced the cold to ensure the festive event went ahead as planned. The main benefactor from this event is The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air ambulance.

Margaret Taylor, President of the Rotary Club of Skegness said she was pleased that the event had still been able to go ahead and wished to thank East Lindsey District Council for their cooperation and help with the arrangements .Margaret said she also wished to thank the Santa's for their patience and restraint in what were challenging conditions.

Special mention must be given to the pupils and staff from Skegness Academy who completed the course in teams of 4 pushing wheelchairs with a view to raising awareness and sponsorship for the Wheelchair Foundation, an International Rotary Project.

Fraser Hines, currently appearing in Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs at the Embassy Theatre set the runners off.
A family ticket was also donated by the Embassy Theatre to the first runner home to attend the panto.

Fraser entered into the spirit of the event and chatted to everyone.  Ady Stennet was Mr Motivator with his music and support over the mike encouraging everyone home with his individual style of banter.

Thanks to the Mayor Steve Kirk and his wife who were with us throughout the event and handed out medals to the runners.

Nearly 200 runners went through the finish line raising money for local charities, further details of which will be provided once the monies are allocated.  A great entry from the Skegness Academy and Skegness Vocational College who were great competitors and added to the spirit of this annual event.

Thanks to everyone who acted as Marshalls and supported us before and during the day.

After days of ‘what if it’s bad weather’ the Santa Fun Run day arrived with a windy but fine day. It was a challenge to erect the registration tent in the blustery conditions but we managed it without TT being swept out over the Wash. Santa's Fun Run Our thanks go to the Lifeboat Station again for allowing us to run a power cable, the Embassy for supplying the PA and the barriers around the course,

Santas Fun Run Santas Fun Run

Lincolnshire Co-operative for supplying the bottled water, the Environment Agency for opening the Sea Defence gates, Simon York and the Fire Brigade for pumping out the pond which formed under the Pier walkway, and ELDC for helping us to conform with all the requirements for running the event.

Entries on the day came thick and fast from 10.00am and we processed around 40 entries in 25 minutes in addition to those already booked in beforehand who needed to register their presence on the day. At 10.30am 178 Santa suited runners were started off by Panto Star Baron Hardup who is Nick Wymer from CITV Programme "My Phone Genie" and it was quite a sight as they charged towards the Clock Tower on the first leg of the event.

Santa's Fun Run By the time the first runners reached the Seaview carpark, entrants were spread out almost the length of North Parade. After the fun runners negotiated the whole length of the seafront and South Parade Carpark first past the post back at the Lifeboat Station was one of the students entered from the Academy. All finishers were presented with a medal as they passed the finishing line and there thankfully was no need to request the services of Run Doctor Steve or any of the First Aiders along the course.

The marshals and registration crew did a sterling job and it was an excellent turnout by club members to support the event. Grateful thanks from Bob and John to all Rotarians and family members who took part or turned up to show support.

Santa's Fun Run 9th December 2013

247 Santas ran this year! Many raised over £100 each for their chosen charities.

Santa's Fun Run 9th December 2013 This year the day of the Santa Fun Run arrived and for once the weather was just about perfect for the event. We had a growing crowd of red-suited runners registering in the official tent from 10.00am onwards and processed around 40 entries on the day in addition to those who had already sent their entry forms and payments prior to Sunday. Secretary Bob was happy to report with five minutes to go to the start that he had just three numbers left from the allotted 250, so 247 people of all ages leapt into action when the Panto Stars and the Mayor together sounded the starting horns at 10.30am

The ranks of Santas this year were swelled by over fifty entries from students and teachers from Skegness Academy who took part to raise money for their own supported charity, Team Smith and competed for their school trophies as part of the event. More than thirty entries were also received from the Skegness Grammar School and it’s boarding house students who also raised significant amounts of sponsorship for the same Charity. Our congratulation s go to all students for their sporting successes. Many other groups, clubs and societies were also represented raising funds for their own worthy causes and the local charities supported by Skegness Rotary

Santa's Fun Run 9th December 2013 Thanks go to the Lifeboat Station again for allowing us to run a power cable, Mr. Cooper for supplying the PA, Famous Joe’s Beach Bar for supplying the bottled water, Skegness Sands for the loan of their large van and ELDC for the barriers around the course and for helping us to conform with all the requirements for running the event and PRS for Music Ltd for donating the music licence

Santa's Fun Run 9th December 2013

This year the route of the course had to be changed at the last minute due to the damage caused to the Central Promenade by the exceptionally high tides the week before so regular entrants had a change of scenery through the path from North Parade Carpark, past the rear of Skegness Natureland and the Arnold Palmer Golf course and on to the Sunshine play area and the rear of the Pier field. Then it was right and left back onto Grand Parade and down Tower Esplanade to get back on to the South Promenade for the rest of the circuit.

Everyone was presented with a medal by the Mayor as they passed the finishing line before they headed for a well deserved rest. It was a brilliant turnout for a good natured morning and was indeed as the name suggests, a fun day.

The marshals and registration crew did a sterling job and it was an excellent turnout by club members to support the event. Grateful thanks from Bob and John to all Rotarians and family members who took part or turned up to show support.
