The Hope Volunteer Group was set up by the staff and residents of the Witham Lodge Salvation Army hostel. The Hope charity help old and venerable people in the Skegness area with the likes of decorating, gardening, or moving house to name a few. Since its launch in 2009 it has become very popular with the local residents and even the local housing association who ask for help for disadvantaged families.
The Hope Volunteer Group gets the Witham Lodge residents back into the community, which increases their self esteem after living on the streets for years. The group does not get any funding, having to rely on fundraising and donations. More tools and equipment are desperately needed for them to continue their work and The Rotary Club of Skegness have recently donated a cheque for £500 to the volunteers to enable them to purchase more tools and equipment.
Witham Lodge provides direct access emergency accommodation for 26 single homeless people, including people with drug or alcohol problems, mental health problems and ex-offenders. To be eligible for a place at the hostel the applicant must be single and homeless this includes ex-offenders, those with mental health, drug or alcohol problems, and women escaping domestic violence. All must have a local connection to Lincolnshire.
