The Rotary Club of Skegness have been actively engaged with the Stroke Awareness blood pressure testing for several years. Recently the local police have been very concerned about the rising death rate among bikers. Butlins host biker weekends in April and October and these weekends attract in excess of 6,000 bikers. There was a full weekend of activites all biker linked as well as numerous exhibitions and stalls.
Chris Baron, the Resort Manager, in conjunction with the local police asked if Rotary could do anything to support the bikers weekend with an emphasis on safety. The Rotary club saw this as an ideal opportunity to extend the Blood pressure testing activities which had normally taken place in the town centre.
This has now become so successful that we get invited to go back each time there is a bikers weekend. Many of the bikers look for our stand and have even suggested that we need a collection box- they are so grateful for all we are doing.
Watch this space we will be there again in April 2010.
