Our partnership with Skegness College continues to go from strength to strength.
Following a donation from the Community & Voluntary Committee, learners have been working with residents at the Skegness Day Centre, using games and arts and crafts materials to encourage engagement and companionship. The funding also enabled the students to purchase ingredients for a bake sale, raising a further £60 for the Day Centre.
The college recently shared some wonderful feedback with us:
“The learners had a lovely time with the residents. To start with they were quite cautious about opening up to us, but over time they really began to enjoy our company. They were disappointed when the community engagement project came to an end, and we are hoping we can do it again next year with our new Business course learners. Thank you so much for all your support.”
The college also shared an exciting idea for the future. Knitting sessions have proved so popular that they are hoping to involve more learners next year, with the aim of producing even more knitted squares and blankets for local charities. The Campus Director agreed that it could be beneficial for learners who wish to practise those skills.
It is wonderful to see how a relatively small Rotary donation has helped create new friendships, encouraged community engagement and inspired ideas for future projects. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership with Skegness College.
